Hello! Let me introduce myself. I’m Catherine and this is my blog about my journey into nutrition and how I’m using food and lifestyle to boost my health. Thank you for reading!
I’m 45 years old and a mum of three boys aged 11, 8 and 5 so my weekends are generally spent on the side of a football pitch! Fortunately I love football and most sports so I don’t mind too much (apart from when it’s snowing or raining sideways…)
I’ve always been interested in health and wellness but during the pandemic this really increased. It was at this time that I also started experiencing what I now realise were perimenopausal symptoms and this led me to research ways in which I could feel better. I read lots of books and listened to lots of podcasts (I love a good podcast!) and was astounded by what an impact our diet and lifestyle could have on our health.
Over the last few years I’ve tried lots of different “diets” and “hacks”. Some have worked for me and some haven’t and I’ve come to the conclusion that diet and lifestyle is highly personal. It’s not a one size fits all solution and it can take time to find what works for you.
One thing that has really worked for my health has been the Zoe Personalised Nutrition programme. Yes it’s pricey but finally I realised that diets like keto weren’t for me but that lots of lovely veg and beans and lentils were. I now know what foods nourish my good gut bugs and what foods to avoid and I’ve lost 18lb in the process!
I also love to lift weights and have found strength training works for me where excessive cardio doesn’t. I’m hoping to invest in a treadmill at home so I can get my steps in when I can’t go out. I might even try a walking desk but I’m not convinced I’m coordinated enough for that!
I’ve spent most of my working life as a Marketeer but I’ve decided to retrain in Nutritional Health. I’m starting at Masters degree in September at the Northern College of Acupuncture which I’m really excited but slightly scared about! How am I going to find the time to do the work?!? I’ll be sharing how it goes on this blog so keep an eye out!
